Significant Figures

Significant Figures – digits used to report a value, where the number of digits is directly related to the precision of the value; the more digits reported, the higher the precision of calculation or measurement.

• Counted starting with the (non-zero) number farthest to the left, ending with the number farthest to the right which is either non-zero or is considered to be exact if zero.
