NMI (National Metrology Institute)
NMI (National Metrology Institute) - most countries have their own NMI which is included in an international system of labs which are tasked with ensuring universal comparability of measurement standards and capabilities.
- International System of Units (SI) traceability – this is the method by which measurement is harmonized. The NMI in each country ensures that the national standards are maintained and traceable to the SI at a stated level of confidence (measurement uncertainty). Examples include: National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) (United States), German National Metrology Institute (PTB), National Metrology Institute of Japan (AIST), National Research Council (NRC) (Canada).
- Have you ever wondered how the entire world agrees how much a ‘pound’ weighs? The international NMI system is how!
