Rinse Solution
Rinse Solution – A solution used to flush residual sample out of instrument introductory system and tubing. This is a cleaning agent used between analyses to ensure that sticky elements are not skewing data by creating memory effects or washout issues.
- Memory effects / washout – this occurs when analytes in test solutions adhere to the inside of an instrument, as future solutions travel through the instrument, sticky elements will continue to wash into samples and can give false highs or false positives, as the instrument will detect this contamination in the solution.
- Rinse solutions are not a ‘one size fits all’ product. Some acids or bases will be more effective than others at removing particular analytes. Many rinse solutions will require the use of a follow-up rinse, such as DI water, to fully rinse away analytes and rinse solution residue.
