Deionized Water

Deionized Water – water that has had ions (molecules like Ca+ or F- that have a positive or negative electrical charge) removed, for use in analytical procedures where these elements may be evaluated in samples. In water, these are typically minerals and salts. If not removed, these ions can create false highs or false positives in samples being tested. This water’s analytical quality is often classed by ‘megaohms’ (MΩ) which is a measure of resistance to conduct electricity. Cleaner water will be more resistant to conduct an electrical current.
