Ionization Buffer

Ionization Buffer – a solution added to all solutions in a method with the purpose of supplying an abundance of electrons to dampen the effect of ionization interference (this is a change in intensity that can make signals hard to measure in analysis) in high temperature environments, such as the plasma flame in an ICP-OES instrument. Just as a pH buffer keeps pH levels stable, ionization buffers keep ionization levels stable, making analysis more consistent.
