Atomic absorption (AA) and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) techniques primarily differ in sensitivity and the number of elements/samples that can be routinely measured. For analyzing a few elements and a small number of samples at concentrations of 100 ppb or higher, then AA techniques are frequently more efficient and cost-effective. If many elements and samples need to be analyzed with detection limits of a few ppb or lower then ICP techniques are typically preferred. We would recommend a quick internet search on the term “AA vs ICP”, as many instrument manufacturers (e.g., PerkinElemer, Shimadzu, Horiba) have published excellent comparisons of the techniques, with detailed information regarding analytical benefits, etc. |
