Chemical Stability and Compatibility - Stabilizing nitrite (NO2) with ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH)

Can you tell me specifically why the neutralization of a sample with NH4OH doesn't affect nitrite concentration?

The NH4OH and nitrite do not participate in redox reactions in dilute aqueous solutions (assuming biological mechanisms are not considered), so there is no concern with ammonium compromising nitrite stability. The primary benefit of adding ammonium hydroxide is to keep the pH of the solution relatively neutral, as nitrite can exhibit instability at lower pH values.
