Chemical Stability and Compatibility - Stability of multi-element ppb standards
I will be making a 25 and 50 ppb standards in 2% HNO3 from the two multi-element standards that I ordered. Do you have any information on how long these standards should be stable? Ball park answer is fine, like 1 week, 1 month or several months?

The solutions that you describe should be stable for at least several months. We have conducted a 65 element ppb study (https://www.inorganicventures.com/part-billion-stability-study). Our results suggest that your working solutions may be stable for a year. If you question the stability of your working solutions, you can check the intensities of an aged solution versus a freshly prepared solution. If there is no statistical difference between the two solutions, then you can assume stability. Please note that factors such as bottle/container cleanliness and acid purity, as well as proper storage and handling should be considered when working with low level concentrations in order to avoid contamination. |
