The work discussed in this paper was initiated with the intention of developing an accurate solution standard for osmium that could be traced to the International System of Units, the SI. The National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) is the provider of Standard Reference Materials (SRMs) that are traced directly to the SI. As a Certified Reference Material (CRM) manufacturer, Inorganic Ventures (IV) traces the certified values of our products to NIST SRMs in order to meet ISO 17034 requirements; however, NIST does not have an (SRM) for osmium. This fact made it necessary to develop a primary method for testing Os that would be directly traceable to the SI.
