As you are probably aware, rhodium metal is very resistant to attack by concentrated acids. Literature sources suggest: 1) dissolution at high temperatures with concentrated HCl and chlorine gas, 2) using a mixuture of concentrated HCl and sodium perchlorate at 125-150 °C, or 3) fusion with potassium bisulfate (KHSO4). There are some suggestions that hot concentrated sulfuric might also work. Lastly, electrolytic oxidation could be employed. Which application is best for your approach would depend upon the goal (e.g., impurity testing of the Rh, conversion to another chemical form, etc.). |
