Transpiration is the gradual loss of water vapor through a container's walls and closure. Every aqueous CRM or RM experiences this process over time, causing solvent loss and increasing analyte concentration. Recognized in metrology since Schumacher (1958) and referenced on NIST certificates since the 1990s, transpiration remains one of the greatest threats to long-term standard accuracy. Without protection, your standard begins to drift long before you even break the seal.
