Methods 300.0 & 300.1

Determining inorganic anions in a range of matrices via ion chromatography are governed by EPA method 300. The method is split into two parts, with Part A covering the inorganic anions bromide, chloride, fluoride, nitrate, nitrite, ortho-phosphate-P, and sulfate, while Part B covers bromate, chlorate, and chlorite. The revised method 300.1 follows similar protocols but specifically focuses on the determination of inorganic anions in drinking water.

Test methods 300 and 300.1 use an ion chromatograph to separate and quantify anions of interest in environmental samples. A critical aspect of the method is eliminating measurement uncertainty via a robust calibration process. EPA method 300 states that calibration standards can be prepared from ACS reagent-grade materials, but the only way to ensure quality standards according to an unbroken chain of quality control is by using certified reference materials (CRMs).
