Sample Preparation - Vegetable oil preparation for trace nickel (Ni)
I read through some of your ashing procedures. I have a question on ashing a hydrogenated vegetable oil sample. I need to analyze this sample for trace levels of Ni via ICP. Would you recommend using the sulfated ashing technique for this or would a straight dry ash suffice?

Definitely the sulfated ash. Nickel oxide is very difficult to dissolve. Do not ash this sample above 450 deg C and not for an extended time (both of these measures are intended to reduce the risk of nickel oxide formation). |
