Measurement and Results - Silicon (Si) ICP-MS solutions
I just want your advice on silica, as my results are very unstable using ICP-MS. Is it that I must also use hydrofluoric acid to prepare the standard? Thank you.

Silicon is stable in water matrices at low concentrations (less than ~10 ppm), but at higher concentrations requires either complexation with fluoride in acidic matrices, or stabilization as a silicate in basic media. Typically, for ICP-MS applications a dilute HNO3/HF matrix is preferred, and more information regarding Si stability in this matrix is available on our Interactive Periodic Table (http://www.inorganicventures.com/periodic-table). |
