Chemical Stability and Compatibility - Silicon (Si) in HNO3 without HF

Is it possible to prepare Si standard only in HNO3 (without HF) at 1000 ppm?

We do not believe it is possible to prepare an acidic 1000 ppm Si standard that will be stable long-term (years) without a complexing ligand such as fluoride (HF). Our experience has been that the Si relatively quickly forms a gel in these preparations if sufficient HF is not present for stabilization. It is worth noting that basic solutions where the matrix is NaOH can stabilize 1000 ppm Si for years, and we offer this formulation as the stock product CGSINA1.
