Measurement and Results - Selecting an ICP-MS standard

I need to select a standard to use with my ICP-MS. The samples are digested air filters that were used to collect ambient particulate matter from the air. Do I need to select a specific type of standard, having a specific matrix, to do this? Or will all standards containing the elements I need work?

You should not need a specific type of ICP standard simply because of your sample; the primary consideration is that the samples and standards are in the same matrix. If you have an existing ICP standard that contains all the elements of interest, then ideally the filter digestion method would result in the same matrix as your ICP standard. In other words, the ICP standard is in a matrix that ensures chemical stability for all the elements it contains, and if your sample digestion method ends up in the same matrix, then you can be confident that all the solutions (samples and standards) are in the appropriate matrix for the elements you’re measuring.
