Sample Preparation - Preparation of silicon standards

Our question is about silicon. Can we use regular class A glassware in the preparation of the standards or how is that to be done?

Silicon (Si) is stabilized in solution either with HF (acidic solutions) or typically NaOH (basic solutions). Either matrix will leach Si from glassware. If the Si concentrations being prepared are high (greater than ~100ppm) and the contact time is short, glassware may be suitable for your preparations. For low level/trace Si analyses we recommend avoiding glassware if at all possible and prepare your solutions gravimetrically in plastic labware.
