Measurement and Results - Memory efects for nickel (Ni) after interference check
We are having issues with our ICP-MS. After we run the calibration (which is fine), the interferent calibration solution is run and then a series of blanks. We can't seem to get Nickel to wash out for a very long time (30 minutes). It only happens when the ICS is run. I have replaced the tubing, pump tubing, and cleaned the cones to no avail. It never did this before, and I was hoping for help before I clean the lenses.

Can you provide more information regarding the nature of the ICS? Some interferent calibration/check solutions (particularly for ICP-MS) contain high concentrations of chloride, carbon, etc. If these or other compounds/analytes are present they might be contributing to high backgrounds for Ni. If lingering interferences are the cause, they may be potentially identified by examining all Ni isotopes to determine how variable the effect you observe is for the different Ni isotopes. |
