A 400 ppb Ge solution prepared in 2% HNO3 should be chemically stable for at least 2 months if not indefinitely. Our website details the results of a ppb stability study that may be a useful reference (https://www.inorganicventures.com/part-billion-stability-study). As for interferences on Ge, we assume you’re referring to ICP-MS methods, and the most likely interferences will be chloride species, either as possible Cl2 dimers or metal-chlorides such as KCl if present in your samples. Unfortunately, Ge lies in a part of the mass range where chloride interferences are prominent, and it may be that Sc and/or Y provide more suitable internal standard alternatives. If you do use Ge as an IS, it may be that the 73Ge isotope generates the best results. |
